Made in USA

Made in USA

With Americans in great need of jobs, I decided to look into just how many factories continue to produce items "Made in USA" that I carry in my store, Viki's Valuable Finds .
Americo Inc. easily qualified for this group of listings. They are located in West Memphis, Arkansas and produce vinyl goods. Domestic products are used in all of their manufacturing.
Syracuse China Co., founded as Onondaga Pottery Company, was bought out by Libbey glassware manufacturers. Libbey continues to operate 2 manufacturing facilities in the USA - in Lousianna and Ohio as well as worldwide.
Pfaltzgraff is another pottery manufacturer whose pieces Viki's Valuable Finds carries when available. They sold out to Lifetime Brands York PA. Pfaltzgraff has no manufacturing in the USA as of July 2005.
Sakura, a major marketer of consumer dinnerware, was acquired by Oneida in 2000. In 2006 Oneida was reorganized under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Carrollton China Co., one of eight firms who consolidated in 1929 as the American Chinaware Corporation to survive the Depression and save the future of pottery made in USA. This company ceased production in 1932.
Smith Corona Typewriter Company ,started in 1886, launched the world's first laptop personal word processor. By 2010, they were no longer producing typewriters and have built a manufacturing facility in Cleveland Ohio to manufacture labels and ribbons.

More to come: I have to stop and think about the jobs that have been lost in the USA so that we could all have more cheaper. Long term, is it really worth what it is costing the American people??

To help with earthquake and tsunami relief Viki's Valuable Finds is donating 80% of the price paid for all of our items made in Japan to World Vision.

Your donations to Japan quake and tsunami relief

>> Donations made to World Vision's Japan relief response will be designated for this specific response. If donations for Japan relief meet or begin to exceed World Vision's response needs, we will halt fundraising for that response, and redirect any excess funds raised to other emergency relief projects around the world. Similarly, in the event that we are no longer able to continue our response in Japan, we will redirect any remaining donations to other emergency relief projects.

2011 Spring Dinnerware Violets & Daffodils

This week brings Spring Dinnerware to Viki's Valuable Finds.
I am ready for Spring 2011 to arrive!! I am not a big fan of winter. I live in South Texas and am a firm believer that "winter" might possibly have one or two days where the temperature gets to the freezing mark. After that, it is time for Spring.
Growing up in Northwest Tennessee the first flowers that I remember each spring were: johnny-jump-ups (violets) and daffodils. We lived "out from town" where there were lots of empty spaces. I loved seeing the daffodils pop up in bloom in the middle of a field or under a tree where they must have been planted long ago. Johnny-jump-ups were always such a delightful surprise since they were usually tucked away under a tree or on a mossy creek bank. When we saw the daffodils and violets we knew Spring really was going to come. There would still be a cold, sharp breeze but the sun was shining and Spring was coming.
I have decided that this winter has been long enough, especially for those who don't get out when the temperature is below 40 or above 80. Across many parts of America & the rest of the world 2011 has been an unusually cold, wet and "not so wonderful" winter. Join me in getting ready for Spring.

This week you will notice the addition of several items that are spring dinnerware:
violet luncheon plates & cups
violet mug
violet salad plates
Daffodil salad plates

These should all be listed in the Grandma's Goodies category of Viki's Valuable Finds @ http://www.vikisvaluablefinds.com/.
Enjoy!
